These sourdough pizzas are some of the easiest and most rewarding recipes you can make with your sourdough starter. If you’ve been looking for beginner-friendly sourdough pizzas that don’t take all day, then you need to try these 3 sourdough pizza ideas. With just a few basic ingredients and minimal hands-on time, these three variations are quick, customizable, and perfect for everything from weeknight dinners to casual get-togethers.
This is the original pizza dough recipe I’ve used, but I’ll be sharing my take on how this dough has been a staple for us in the kitchen.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Ready Right Away – This sourdough pizza crust comes together so quickly and there’s no wait time if you don’t want there to be. The original recipe I’ve tried for these 3 sourdough pizza ideas calls for an 8 hour wait time. However, I’ve used the dough as little as 20-30 minutes after mixing, and the pizzas turn out great every time.
Budget Friendly – The ingredients are so simple for this recipe so there’s no need to run out to the grocery store for one ingredient you’ll never use again. Thank goodness!
Perfect for Meal-Prep – This recipe will make 8 mini pizzas or 4 regular sized pizzas so this dough is perfect to prep ahead and stick in the freezer until you’re ready for a quick, last minute dinner for the whole family.
Tips for These 3 Sourdough Pizzas
- The stand mixer can sometimes struggle to work the dough when it starts to come together. If this happens with your mixer, turn it off and allow the motor to rest. Kneading this dough with your hands can also help things move along.
- Sometimes the dough will spring back (towards you) when you’re rolling out the dough causing it to not spread as much. This means the gluten needs some time to rest. The longer you wait to roll out your dough, it will eventually get to room temperature making it easier to roll out your dough. I’ve waited as little as 20 minutes before rolling out the dough and it has been completely fine.
- The ideal way to prepare the dough is to prepare it in the morning, let it sit on the counter during the work day, and roll it out for dinner when you get home.

How to Make 3 Sourdough Pizza Ideas You Need to Try
In a mixing bowl, add the water and sourdough starter and mix together with a dough whisk to get a frothy consistency.
Next, add the flour and salt and use the dough whisk to mix those dry ingredients together.
Depending on what pizza you’re making, you could totally add your spices to the dough to give it more flavor. I recommend adding the basil and oregano to the dough.
Finally, add your olive oil and mix everything until the dough comes together.
Transfer the dough to a bowl and let the dough sit out anywhere from 20 minutes to a few hours. This will allow the gluten to rest and reach room temperature. This dough is very flexible to work with. If your dough is springing back a lot, let it rest for a bit and try rolling it out after that.
While your dough is resting, preheat your oven to 400 degrees and line your pizza pan with parchment paper. Set that aside.
If you are making the Mexican Style Pizza or the Chicken Pesto Pizza, start cooking the ground beef or chicken while the oven is preheating and the dough is resting.
Once your dough is rolled out, start adding the ‘sauce and cheese’ layers for any of the 3 sourdough pizza ideas! Bake each pizza at 400 degrees for 15 minutes.
Once the pizzas are baked, add the fresh toppings on afterwards. This step is mainly for toppings like avocado, lettuce, basil, tomatoes, etc. If you’d like to place cooked beef, chicken, peppers, etc before going in the oven you totally can.
Enjoy!
Storage
The pizza dough can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or in the freezer for 3 months.
